transportation

Nothing makes you stick out on campus more than not knowing the bus system, best walking routes, and how to avoid hitting pedestrians. I had a hard time with the bus system, mostly because I don't live in a place that had one. (I'm a suburbian) I have gotten lost on the bus, and had to be given specific directions on which bus to take. The driver of the first bus even had the second driver wait for my arrival, which was completely embarrassing. As I ride the bus now, I am reminded of how much horror the first driver had put me through in front of a bus load of students. Thank god my school is huge or I would have had to deal with seeing those people again. As for walking routes, EXPLORE CAMPUS before classes start. This is the best way to get acclimated and ditch that campus map. Ask people for directions if you get lost, I promise most people won't mind, they used to be new students too. And please, if your going to ride your bike, learn the bike laws of the area. Try to avoid sidewalks if it's allowed. I've nearly been hit just walking several times...
